Multiple Injuries Reported in Shooting in Austin, Texas

Police investigate at the scene of the shooting in Austin Texas

The location of the shooting was reported to be a downtown restaurant but authorities have not yet confirmed that.

They added that the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident, although an investigation was still ongoing.

This photo provided by Austin Police Department shows Chief Chacon providing an update on overnight shootings in Austin, Texas on Saturday.

He noted that APD transported six victims to area hospitals in police vehicles, EMS transported four, and three victims transported themselves in a personal vehicle. "People were freaking out a lot, and there were some people crying, but most people were just freaking out".

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the shooting or what happened before the shooting is asked to call 911 or the police tip line at 512-472-TIPS.

Reporter Tony Plohetski has since shared that a suspect has been arrested and that officials from the Austin police and Lone Star Fugitive Task Force worked to arrest the man. The ninth remained near the scene and was being treated there, according to the Austin Police Department.

The first call of shots fired came in at around 1:24 a.m. local time (2:24 a.m. ET), he said, adding that the street was barricaded to keep out crowds and vehicle traffic at the time of the shooting.

Trump Suspended From Facebook Until At Least 2023
Trump was originally suspended from Facebook after the January 6 Capitol siege over concerns his posts were inciting violence. The Oversight Board for Facebook was formed a year ago , as a last court of appeal for controversial moderation decisions.

"It was very hard to contain the scene, it was very hard for EMS to make their way into this crowd", Chacon told reporters. "We have a total of 11 people transported to one hospital, one was transported to a different hospital and one person reported to an urgent care clinic".

City and state leaders are reacting to the tragic news.

"The uptick in gun violence locally is part of a disturbing rise in gun violence across the country as we exit the pandemic", Austin Mayor Steve Adler wrote on Twitter.

"One thing is clear - greater access to firearms does not equal greater public safety".

Thirteen people were shot on 6th St.in Austin early Saturday morning and the shooter is still on the loose.

Councilmember Ann Kitchen also said, "there's no place for guns on our streets, as we reopen our city".

Coincidentally, the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida, occurred five years ago June 12.
