The PM’s ‘secret wedding’: Who is Carrie Symonds?

He is only the second British prime minister to marry while in office, and the first in almost two centuries with Robert Jenkinson the last in 1822.

Earlier this month the Sun had reported that wedding invitations had been sent to friends and family for July 2022.

The couple were engaged on the Caribbean island of Mustique in December 2019 and have one-year-old son, Wilfred.

The newspaper noted that Johnson, 56, is the first prime minister to Wednesday in office since Lord Liverpool married Mary Chester in 1822.

Symonds, who was the Conservative Party's head of communications before joining a marine conservation organization, is Johnson's third wife.

Under current coronavirus restrictions in England, weddings can be attended by a maximum of 30 people.

"The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds were married on Saturday afternoon in a small ceremony at Westminster Cathedral", a Downing Street spokesman said.

Trudeau condemns Belarus' arrest of journalist, hints at further sanctions
Ryanair Flight FR4978, which took off from Athens, Greece, was eventually allowed to continue on to Vilnius, Lithuania. Ryanair's CEO Michael O'Leary described the move as "a case of state-sponsored hijacking ... state-sponsored piracy".

Symonds arrived at the lunchtime nuptials in a limousine and wore "a stunning long and flowing white dress" but chose not to wear a veil, it added.

When he was elected in 2019, Boris Johnson was the first British prime minister to live with an unmarried partner. So many weddings have been delayed and disrupted by covid.

A spokeswoman for Johnson's Downing Street office declined to comment on the reports. The last prime minister to do so was Robert Banks Jenkinson in 1822.

Mr Cummings also claimed that in February 2020, when the pandemic was becoming a major global crisis, Mr Johnson was "distracted by finalising his divorce, his girlfriend wanted to announce being pregnant and an engagement, and his finances".

Johnson was previously married to lawyer Marina Wheeler for 25 years, with whom he has four children.

Northern Ireland First Minister Arlene Foster tweeted: "Huge congratulations to Boris Johnson & Carrie Symonds on your wedding today".

The wedding comes at the end of a hard week for the Prime Minister in which his former aide Dominic Cummings branded him unfit for office.
