San Jose mass shooting updates: 2 guns, 11 magazines found

A woman leaves the scene of a shooting at a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority facility on Wednesday in San Jose Calif

Investigators have not announced any suspected motive for the attack or provided details about the guns used in the shooting or how Cassidy acquired a weapon.

A 36-year-old Indian-origin Sikh man was among eight people killed in the horrific rail yard shooting in San Jose in the USA state of California, according to media reports on Thursday.

Raul Peralez, who identified himself as Rudometkin's close friend, said he and his father were planning a golf day with "Mikey".

"I was scared", the woman, who said she broke up with Cassidy about 12 years ago and has requested anonymity, told KNTV-TV of San Jose. "There are at least eight families who will never be whole again".

The station is located near the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office at 101 Younger Avenue.

Cassidy had worked for the transit authority since at least 2012, when he was listed as an "electro-mechanic", and was promoted to "substation maintainer" in 2015, according to records posted by the nonprofit website Transportation California.

Last year, he earned a salary of $102,000, plus benefits and $20,000 in overtime, the records showed.

'A awful tragedy has happened today and our thoughts and love go out to the VTA family, ' Glenn Hendricks, chairman of the VTA board, told reporters.

Half the states had mask requirements in place for most indoor spaces when the CDC issued its recommendations. The same policy applies to Wynn's employees, the company said.

The facility is a transit control centre that stores trains and has a maintenance yard.

Mr Singh was a light rail operator at the VTA for nine years now. It is considered the heart of Silicon Valley, a global center of technological innovation where some of America's biggest tech companies are based.

Firefighters responded at a home in the 1100 block of Angmar Court in San Jose at 6:36 a.m. local time, according to tweets from the San Jose Fire Department. Smith said there's no information to connect another suspect to the fire.

An explosives-detecting robot sat in the street near the home while two bomb squad technicians entered the ranch-style house.

Agents with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are assisting with the investigation, and have declared there is a "sizable crime scene" to process.

In a statement from the White House, U.S.President Joe Biden said he and Vice President Kamala Harris had been briefed on the shootings.

Mass gun violence, commonplace in a country with one of the highest rates of firearm ownership in the world, has escalated considerably following a year-long lull as the United States emerged from the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic this spring.

"We are still awaiting numerous details of this latest mass shooting, but there are some things we know for sure", President Joe Biden said in a statement on Wednesday.
