NY prosecutors probing Trump form grand jury

A grand jury has been convened to consider criminal charges against Donald Trump

The Washington Post reported Tuesday that the grand jury will sit three days per week for the next six months and will hear evidence related to several long-term matters.

In response to the development, Trump said it is a continuation of "Witch Hunt" and this is purely political and driven by highly partisan Democrat prosecutors, according to a report by The Hill.

Vence's office said in court filings that it was investigating "probably widespread and protracted criminal activity" at the Trump Organization.

The Trump Organisation did not respond to an AFP request for comment yesterday.

The latest move comes two years after the Manhattan district attorney's office first launched an investigation against Trump that included obtaining the former president's tax records and reviewing claims that he made hush-money payments to women, including Stormy Daniels, to remain silent about alleged affairs with him.

"This is purely political, and an affront to the nearly 75 million voters who supported me in the Presidential Election, and it's being driven by highly partisan Democrat prosecutors", the former president said in a statement.

But in his blog Tuesday, Trump accused prosecutors of targeting him for the Russian Federation investigation, which has nothing to do with the case in NY. Ryanair Flight FR4978, which took off from Athens, Greece, was eventually allowed to continue on to Vilnius, Lithuania. Ryanair's CEO Michael O'Leary described the move as "a case of state-sponsored hijacking ... state-sponsored piracy".

James' office had been criminally investigating the personal taxes of Allen Weisselberg, the longtime chief financial officer of the Trump Organization, an official close to the investigation said.

In recent months, Vance has hired former Mafia prosecutor Mark Pomeranz to assist in conducting the investigation and interviewed witnesses, including former Trump private lawyer Michael Cohen.

Vance declined to run for reelection and will leave office at the end of the year, meaning the Trump case is likely to pass to his successor in some form. Next month's election is nearly certain to decide who it will be.

His former daughter-in-law Jen Weisselberg, who is cooperating with the inquiry, has passed on documents helping investigators look at whether some Trump employees might have been given unofficial benefits such as housing or school tuition.

Last week he attacked James and said he would "overcome" the indictment attempt.

Allen Weisselberg was subpoenaed in James' civil investigation and testified twice a year ago.

This is a developing story.
