Indian state unable to obtain Covid-19 shots directly from Moderna

Covid-19 Moderna refuses to supply vaccines directly to Punjab says will only deal with Centre

With new data released Tuesday, Moderna's shot could soon be available to kids, too.

The Centre has said that it is making all effort to source Covid-19 vaccines whether it is from Moderna or Pfizer. Investigators enrolled 3,700 participants and randomly assigned two-thirds to receive two doses of the Moderna vaccine.

The vaccine candidate, known as mRNA-1273, was given as two doses four weeks apart with half of the group given the jab and half given the placebo.

Though it is unclear how people will be able to identify which centres have unused doses at the end of the day, leading to concerns there may be long queues outside vaccination centres as people wait for doses.

The results set Moderna up for an FDA filing in the age group next month.

But Moderna won't be the first COVID-19 vaccine maker to score an authorization in children.

"We've spoken to Pfizer and Moderna for vaccines, and both the manufacturers have refused to sell vaccines directly to us".

The unacceptable landing of a plane in Belarus requires a strong response
In 2019 he left Belarus because of the threat to his freedom for cooperation with the independent Telegram channel Nexta . Belarusian opposition journalist Roman Protasevich arrives for a court hearing in Minsk, Belarus , April 10, 2017.

It could also help boost vaccination rates with more than 25 million adolescents between ages 12 and 17 in the USA, according to data from the Census Bureau.

In a significant landmark, the cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 20 crore, the Union health ministry said on Tuesday.

Moderna Inc, whose vaccine is authorized for adults 18 and older, said it will submit the findings of its adolescent study to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and other regulators for emergency use authorization in early June.

Pfizer and Moderna have told Delhi, and Moderna has told Punjab that the companies would engage only with the Centre and not with state governments or private entities. The company is on track to produce up to 1 billion doses of its shot this year, and, thanks to expanded collaborations, it's targeting 3 billion doses for 2022.

Using a case definition from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which requires only 1 COVID-19 symptom, the vaccine was found to be 93% effective, suggesting the vaccine may be protective against cases with milder symptoms, the company said.

However, with several states forced to shut down vaccination sites or operate a limited number of vaccination sites due to unavailability and shortage of vaccines, the Centre's decision to allow walk-ins is likely to have limited impact.
