Grand jury convened over Trump's alleged tax fraud

Former President Donald Trump leaves Trump Tower in Manhattan

A NY prosecutor has convened a special grand jury to examine evidence of a criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump's commercial transactions, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

The Manhattan DA has convened a grand jury in his Trump investigation, The Washington Post reported. It's a major development, a new development, in this ongoing saga, this criminal investigation into the former president and his business dealings, and it could signal a turning point, perhaps, toward the home stretch- the final stretch of this, what has been a two year investigation.

Previous court filings suggested the investigation was sparked by testimony from Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen that the Trump Organization facilitated a hush-money payment to the adult-film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 U.S. election - which could also be a violation of state tax laws.

A grand jury has been convened to consider criminal charges against Donald Trump.

James is leading a criminal investigation into whether Trump's company misreported property values to guarantee loans and receive economic and tax breaks.

The outlet added that "the investigation includes scrutiny of Trump's relationship with his lenders; a land donation he made to qualify for an income tax deduction; and tax write-offs his company claimed on millions of dollars in consulting fees it paid".

After subpoenaing records from Trump's accounting firm Mazars in August 2019, Vance wrangled with Trump's lawyers for their client's financial records up to the Supreme Court of the United States, twice.

Ontario moving forward with second doses of AstraZeneca vaccine
The provincial government remains optimistic as infection rates continue to fall and vaccination rates continue to rise. But if given sooner, they are less effective at preventing serious COVID-19 illness, at about 68 or 69 per cent.

The development shows Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. may have obtained evidence of a crime about the case, said media reports.

"New York City and State are suffering the highest crime rates in their history, and instead of going after murderers, drug dealers, human traffickers, and others, they come after Donald Trump".

The inquiry had fought to get hold of Mr Trump's tax records and more recently has appeared to focus on the Trump Organization's long-time finance chief, Allen Weisselberg.

Last week he attacked James and said he would "overcome" the indictment attempt.

"This is purely political, and an affront to the nearly 75 million voters who supported me in the Presidential Election, and it's being driven by highly partisan Democrat prosecutors", Trump closed.

This is a developing story.
