Coroner investigation confirms infant from Interior died of COVID-19

Maharashtra Logs 48,700 Covid Cases In 24 Hours Lowest In Nearly 3 Weeks

During a press conference, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said there were 881 cases reported from Friday to Saturday, 847 from Saturday to Sunday, and 763 from Sunday to Monday.

Gujarat's Covid-19 tally crossed the 5 lakh-mark on Monday to reach 5,10,373 with the addition of 14,340 new cases, the highest rise in a single day so far, the state health department said.

The province has now identified a total of 126,249 coronavirus infections and suffered 1,571 related fatalities since the start of the pandemic.

Two of the new deaths were in people over the age of 90, seven were in their 80s, five in their 70s, two in their 60s and one in their 50s.

One death was reported on Vancouver Island, where 35 people have now died of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

One of the deaths was the infant, now the youngest person to die from COVID-19 in the province, Henry said. "Privacy, of course, of the family, is paramount and we won't be adding any additional information, but (we're) just recognizing the tragedy about a young life lost".

There are now 8,199 active COVID-19 cases in the province, 484 people are in hospital, with 158 of them in critical care or ICU.

12,340 people are in isolation, a further 116,241 people have recovered.

In all, the province noted that more than 1.63 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in B.C., 89,500 of which are second doses.

The turnaround was due to the metropolis tackling the surge during the second COVID-19 wave with an "ATM strategy", which is "Assess, Triage and Transfer, and Management", he said.

The coroners' service in B.C. has a process in place to investigate whether the illness was a factor in any sudden and unexpected deaths, she said. "Our thoughts are with you during this very hard time".

The UT is now left with 2,160 active cases with four deaths so far, officials said.

"The situation in Maharashtra is coming under control day by day, and that is why we are working on increasing the number of people getting vaccinated". "We all, right now, need to continue to do those things that prevent transmission of the virus".

"That means to stay local in our communities to reduce the number of contexts we have to always use our layers of protection". If you have any concerns about what you see in comments, email the editor in the link above.
