New Zealand Suspends Entry Of Travellers From India Amid Covid Surge

New Zealand suspends entry of all Indian passengers from April 11 to 28 amid spike in COVID-19 cases

The suspension is temporary because "we do have obligations to allow citizens to return to New Zealand", Ardern says.

Ardern said the suspension of entry to New Zealand for arrivals from India would run from April 11-28.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Thursday (April 8) temporarily suspended entry for all travellers from India, including its own citizens, following a high number of COVID-19 infections arriving from the country. New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern has taken a decision in this regard on Thursday.

The temporary hold would also help reduce the risk that travellers themselves faced, she said.

The travel restriction comes after New Zealand recorded 23 new positive coronavirus cases in managed isolation on Thursday, of which 17 came from India, the report added. New Zealand has already banned the entry of passengers from several other countries.

Biden's planned pick for ATF director a fierce advocate for gun control
Standing out is a proposed new rule to "stop proliferation of ghost guns", as firearms built from home kits are known. The President plans to announce new executive actions on guns Thursday, a person familiar with the plans said .

There are now 95 active Covid-19 cases in New Zealand - the security guard and 94 who were detected at the border - and all are housed in a special quarantine facility.

"We have looked into whether we have issues with the accuracy of pre-depature tests - that has not demonstrated that is where the problem lies, so this suspension gives us a bit of time to look at the issue more generally".

The country is reviewing its border settings as more people with infections arrived in New Zealand recently, majority being from India. "This is not a country specific risk assessment.".

Both New Zealand and Australia have largely contained the coronavirus, with few community outbreaks in recent months which were all successfully eliminated after brief local lockdowns. "This is the second time we were trying to return", Shobha Atre said on social media.

The country's Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield confirmed the man, 24, had not yet been vaccinated and travels to work in a private auto with a colleague.
