Toronto schools to close Wednesday for in-person learning

Schools in Peel Region ordered closed for two weeks due to surging COVID-19 cases

A statement from Waterloo Region's Catholic school board said there were no plans to move to virtual learning between now and April break.

"TPH will continue to recommend early dismissal for individual schools upon investigation to protect students, staff, teachers, and school communities", said the health unit Monday.

Peel Public Health has issued a Section 22 order, under the Ontario Health Protection and Promotion Act, to close all schools in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga for two weeks effective 12:01 a.m. on April 6, 2021 and move to remote learning only.

"The spread of COVID-19 has never been greater in Toronto, with variants of concern increasing both the risk of transmission and the risk of serious illness or death", said the City in a news release.

During the closure, licensed child care programs will not be permitted to offer care to children whose schools are required to be closed under the order, with the exception of emergency child care for those who qualify.

Top officials arrested in alleged plot against Jordan's King
The US State Department said on Saturday that King Abdullah is a "key partner" of the US. Hamzah is the eldest son of late King Hussein and his American wife Queen Noor.

The Sun has also learned that Toronto's medical officer Dr. Eileen de Villa has considered implementing the same measure, although the Toronto District School Board may instead opt to just close schools in very high-transmission neighbourhoods.

Dubey added: "COVID-19 spreads through close contact with someone who is infected with the virus, and not from specific locations".

Education Minister Stephen Lecce announced last week that Ontario schools would remain open for in-class learning after the scheduled April spring break, despite calls from teachers' unions that continuing to work unvaccinated in classrooms is too risky. "We've been working behind the scenes all weekend to make this happen". For Toronto and neighbouring Peel, it mostly meant the closure of outdoor dining patios.

Toronto Public Health (TPH) announced the opening of another vaccine clinic on Monday but did not say it would follow in Peel's footsteps. "This decision will be revisited on a daily basis, and further recommendations may be made in the near future in partnership with our local school boards and the province".
