Ontario reports 3,065 new cases of COVID-19

Ontario to drop two days' worth of COVID-19 data today

There are 942 people hospitalized with the virus in Ontario, but the Ministry of Health notes that 10 per cent of Ontario's hospitals do not submit data on weekends.

Another eight people have died in the province as a result of the virus, raising the death toll to 7,458.

Today, we are reporting two periods: April 3 to 4, we had 999 cases, and in the last 24-hours, we had a further 890 cases for a two-day total of 1,889 new cases.

Of the active cases, 318 individuals are now hospitalized with COVID-19, 96 of whom are in intensive care.

Locally, there are 955 new cases in Toronto, 561 in Peel, 320 in York Region, 165 in Ottawa and 132 in Niagara.

Since the pandemic began, the province has logged 367,602 COVID-19 infections, including 333,576 recoveries and 7,458 deaths.

Based on the ongoing restrictions and closures imposed on bars, restaurants and other small businesses in Ontario - most recently the loss of patios to the full provincial shutdown that commenced on Saturday - one could understandably believe that such settings must be huge contributors to COVID-19 spread.

There are now 1,852 known active cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, just one of several record-breaking highs reached during this third wave, which features more risky coronavirus variants.

Earlier Monday, Peel MOH Dr. Lawrence Loh said he was ordering schools in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga to close and move to online learning for two weeks, the following day, because of surging COVID-19 cases. The variant will run the table in a household.

Right now, there are 26,568 active cases of the novel coronavirus in Ontario.

To date, 893,590 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca-SII COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C., 87,472 of which are second doses.

More than 323,148 people have been fully vaccinated against the disease in Ontario since mid-December. At least 76,199 shots were administered in the last 24 hours.

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) recorded 176 more COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. The number of cases for any city or region may differ slightly from what is reported by the province, because local units report figures at different times.
