One U.S. Capitol Police officer was killed and another injured when a man rammed a vehicle into them at a barricade outside the Capitol building on Friday.
According to Metropolitan Police, just after 1:00 pm EST, a man, later identified as a 25-year-old from IN named Noah Green, rammed his blue sedan into two Capitol Police officers and then hit the north barricade barrier. He was 18-year veteran of the department who began his service on March 7, 2003, Acting U.S. Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman said in a statement. The Capitol Police said the other officer was in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
She said Evans was a member of the division's First Responder's Unit. "We know what a hard time this has been for the Capitol, everyone who works there, and those who protect it".
Biden, who is spending the weekend at Camp David, also ordered the USA flag to be flown at half-staff at the White House and all federal buildings Friday until sunset on April 6 in honor of Evans.
According to police, Green crashed into the two officers as they were standing at a barricade, then got out of the vehicle brandishing a knife.
Police said Green rammed his auto into the officers at 1:02 p.m. and then exited the vehicle and lunged at them.
Canada`s Ontario returns to lockdown to slow coronavirus, report says
The province has reported 2,000 new cases daily for a week, double the daily infections seen in the beginning of March. The letter says doctors are seeing younger patients on ventilators and many are parents of school-aged children.
Noah Green, 25, struck two officers, killing one, at the US Capitol just after 1 p.m. Friday, cops said.
In one post he spoke of being tormented by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Central Intelligence Agency, hospitalised and subjected to "mind control", and called the government "the #1 enemy of Black people!"
National Guard troops were mobilised Friday and staff at the huge Capitol complex ordered to stay away from windows and seek cover after alerts went out over the incident shortly after 1:00 pm (1700 GMT).
"I am deeply saddened by the events that took place at the U.S. Capitol earlier today, especially at a time when Capitol police officers are still feeling the effects from the events of January 6", Brown said in a statement.
Biden also lowered White House flags.
Less than three months ago, pro-Trump rioters stormed the Capitol, resulting in the deaths of five people - including two Capitol Police officers. Two officers, one from Capitol Police and another from Washington's Metropolitan Police Department, died by suicide following the January 6 attack.
