However, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said that while people can travel, they still should avoid doing so.
The CDC admitted that whilst they would prefer if people stayed at home and avoid travel, they had enough evidence as to the effectiveness of the vaccines, which showed people could travel "at low risk to themselves". "We are not recommending travel at this time, especially for unvaccinated individuals".
The new guidance also says fully vaccinated people do not need to get a COVID-19 test before or after domestic travel and do not need to self-quarantine after travel. The CDC recently released new, much-anticipated guidelines on Friday, and it was good news for those who have been vaccinated.
Vaccinated travelers can go overseas without getting a Covid-19 test before travel unless it is required by the worldwide destination, the new guidelines say.
The term Fully Vaccinated, as used by CDC, refers to people who have passed the timeline of two weeks after their second dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or two weeks since they received the single dose of Johnson & Johnson's vaccine.
"Travel and tourism is the industry hardest hit by the economic fallout of COVID, and the damage is so severe that a broader economic recovery will stall if we can't get travel off the ground", he said.
"That said we are at 64,000 new COVID cases today, and our numbers continue to increase".

Masks are still recommended, along with social distancing and other precautions.
Most non-U.S. citizens are still restricted from counties with high infection rates, including Brazil, China, South Africa and parts of Europe.
But worldwide travelers headed to the United States should have a negative Covid-19 test before they get on the plane, be tested after arrival, and must quarantine if local authorities in the United States require it, the CDC said in a statement.
The CDC had repeatedly declined in recent weeks to change the guidance and repeated it was still discouraging all non-essential travel because of a concern about new variants.
Many Americans have not been heeding the CDC's advice.
These are recommendations and millions of travelers have flown in the last several weeks, according to the TSA. Transportation Safety Administration's numbers show more than 1 million passengers have passed through airport security almost every day in March.
