Ted Cruz flew to Cancun amid Texas power outages, freeze

Their trip was met with a great deal of criticism, as Cruz was lambasted for jetting to a fancy hotel while his constituents went without power, hot water and heat.

O'Rourke, who ran against Cruz in the 2018 midterm election, said volunteers had contacted more than 784,000 people, offering advice on securing food, transportation, water, and shelter. The Texas lawmaker said his house had lost power and heat for two days, so his girls asked if they could travel someplace warmer.

Google, tell me a story about Ted Cruz. "Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon". Meanwhile, "View" co-host Sunny Hostin said that while senator Ted Cruz did " get caught" he is "probably not going to be held accountable for this". My staff and I are in constant communication with state and local leaders to get to the bottom of what happened in Texas. But after Abbott's handling of both the COVID-19 pandemic and this week's devastating power outages, we're not sure how many Texans would dispute the "incompetent" part of the assessment.

The trip was condemned by Democrats and Republicans, and could harm Mr Cruz's ambitions to be the Republican presidential nominee in 2024. "I didn't want all the screaming and yelling about this trip to distract even one moment from the real issues Texans care about, which is keeping all of our families safe".

After he returned home, Cruz told reporters that he "made a mistake" and that he started having "second thoughts" as soon as he boarded the plane on Wednesday.

'And Heidi and I, as parents, we said OK, sure.

Donald Trump's Casino Demolished With Explosives In 'Las Vegas Style Implosion'
Local hotels sold viewing packages for the implosion, and nearby Bader Field charged $10 per auto to watch the implosion up close. "There's nothing political at all about us being here", Cavallo said while focusing a miniature telescope on his dashboard.

His office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the BBC.

Cruz and Heidi, a managing director in Goldman Sachs' Houston office, flew out of Houston airport at 4pm on Wednesday, with their daughters Caroline and Catherine, 10 and 12.

As uproar grew louder, Cruz booked his return flight Thursday afternoon in Cancun to come back to Texas. She said officers "monitored his movements" while Cruz was at the airport. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises people who have travelled to get a coronavirus test three to five days after their return and to quarantine for a full week, regardless of the test results. Obviously, Cruz can not single-handedly fix the very broken Texas power grid situation (though just a few months ago, he was too busy poking fun at blackout- and wildfire-plagued California to consider what kind of shape his own state's natural disaster plan was in). A lot of Texans are frustrated.

Because in the middle of a state-wide emergency during which millions are shivering in the dark without water or power, the Houston police have nothing better to do.

Cruz carries his luggage at the Cancun International Airport in Mexico before boarding a plane back to the US on Thursday.
