British queen’s husband, 99-year-old Prince Philip, admitted to hospital

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and Britain's Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh

The 99-year-old was taken to the private King Edward VII Hospital on Tuesday evening, the palace said, adding that it was "a precautionary measure".

The Queen remains at Windsor Castle in England, the source said.

A palace source told the BBC that the duke travelled to the hospital by vehicle, where he was admitted as a precaution on his doctor's advice.

In early November, Philip and the Queen returned to Windsor Castle together after spending a weekend together at Sandringham.

He is expected to remain in hospital for a few days of observation and rest.

But palace spokespeople have gone out of their way to emphasise that this was not an emergency admission and that it was precautionary.

The last time he was seen in public he seemed in good health, standing unaided - and he walked into hospital on Tuesday evening, having travelled there by auto.

Local hotels sold viewing packages for the implosion, and nearby Bader Field charged $10 per auto to watch the implosion up close. "There's nothing political at all about us being here", Cavallo said while focusing a miniature telescope on his dashboard.

He was previously admitted to hospital in 2018 and twice 2019, with the 2018 visit related to hip replacement surgery.

Philip is rarely seen in public after he stepped down from official engagements in August 2017. He was discharged on Christmas Eve before being driven to Sandringham to spend Christmas with the Queen.

So the medics inside the private King Edward VII hospital will be keeping a very close watch on the man, who is the longest serving consort in British history.

He will have pre-existing conditions, they haven't told us why he's in hospital other than the fact that he was feeling ill for a few days.

Prince Charles accompanied the Queen instead of his father to the State Opening of Parliament - the 11th time he had missed the occasion since 1956.

He was said to be "disappointed" that he would miss the remainder of the celebrations, which culminated with a Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral and a carriage procession through the capital.

In 2011, he was rushed to a hospital by helicopter after suffering chest pains and treated for a blocked coronary artery.
