Harry Redknapp questions why Liverpool let Minamino join Southampton on loan

Takumi Minamino

Minamino has just made just four Premier League starts for Liverpool since his £7.25m arrival, with the 26-year-old mainly featuring in the cups for the Reds for a total of 1,237 minutes over the last year.

Klopp allowed Japan forward Takumi Minamino to join Southampton on loan after he struggled to break into a forward line comprising Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. The 25-year-old centre-back has put pen to paper on a deal with the Reds on deadline day to tie up his transfer from the Championship club and bolster Jurgen Klopp's defensive ranks. 'If Liverpool fancied him they wouldn't have let him go.

'If he [Klopp] felt that he was of any use then he would have kept him there.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said: "Takumi will help provide another good attacking option and is importantly the right profile of player for us".

Jeff Bezos to step down as Amazon CEO
He will move down a rank to executive chair in a move he said will give him more time to focus on his other projects. Operating income at AWS scaled as well, from $2.60 billion in Q4 2019 to $3.56 billion in the most recent quarter.

Southampton failed in their attempts to sign Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Liverpool full-back Neco Williams on Deadline Day, but the Japanese could become the first and only January incoming at St Mary's.

Southampton coach Ralph Hasenhotel said that the 26-year-old Minamino, who has played 26 global matches for Japan, would provide a good attacking option for his team in the second half of the season. Major moves involving "Big Six" Premier League clubs were few and far between in the January window.

"This will give us some additional depth in our squad at an important time, and I am looking forward to beginning work with him on the training pitch".

Southampton also confirmed that striker Shane Long had moved on loan to second-tier Bournemouth until the end of the season.
