In April 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's representatives sent a letter to four United Kingdom tabloid newspapers, including The Sun, saying that the couple would no longer work with them.
Both stories alleged that the prince had "snubbed" the Royal Marines and the British military and ignored correspondence from Lord Dannatt, a former Chief of the General Staff.
At a remote High Court hearing on Monday, the Duke's legal team said Associated Newspapers have accepted the allegations were false, "albeit after considerable damage was already done". The Duke of Sussex's libel lawsuit against the publisher of The Mail on Sunday and MailOnline can now be considered closed, according to a statement the prince's attorney, Jenny Afia via E!
After today's hearing, Harry now considers the matter closed but the amount of the damages has not been disclosed.
The Duke of Sussex acknowledged in his letter that it has taken a "steadfast, coordinated effort across communities and countries to get ourselves to a point where we can fight this virus".
Harry is seen on arrival in Afghanistan's Helmand Province in 2012.

Harry had served for a decade in the British army. Although Harry retired from the military in 2015, he remains closely involved with the armed forces. We apologise to Prince Harry and have made a donation to the Invictus Games Foundation. It's an annual Olympics-style event for injured veterans and service personnel.
The birth certificate of Prince Harry's son was apparently altered on 5 June, just a few weeks after the Sussexes received it, The Sun revealed, citing the edited document, which was first spotted by Lady Colin Campbell.
In a statement read before Mr Justice Nicklin in a virtual session of the High Court this morning, Harry's lawyers said that he had made "repeated and concerted efforts to continue to support the Royal Marines and other members of the Armed Forces" despite being required to "step back from his formal military roles" after he and Meghan quit their roles as working royals a year ago.
He is not allowed to take any particular role using the titles at present, but they have not yet been handed to other members of the royal family. The Invictus Games Foundation helps run the annual event, and as mentioned, Harry is its patron. "The duke is personally donating the significant damages recovered from this legal resolution to the Invictus Games Foundation". This coming March, there will be a 12-month review into Harry and Meghan's agreement in which the title will be examined.
She said Harry was "proud to have served in the British armed forces for 10 years in Her Majesty's name" and "has maintained active links with those forces ever since and will continue to do so in the future".
