New record 1,584 COVID-19 cases reported Sunday

There are now 8,012 active infections in Manitoba, including 385 new cases, and 10 more people have died.

A release from the Province of Alberta notes that Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw will speak via live stream at a press conference at 3:30 pm. "Severe outcomes are not limited just to those already at the very end of their lives, and it is a mistake to think so".

Hinshaw said people of all ages are dying from the virus, including two people in their 30s this past week.

"It affects all of the patients without COVID-19 who need care, who come in with urgent need and no beds available, or whose surgeries are delayed, whose chronic conditions go untreated and the doctors and health professionals forced to make those decisions", Shepherd posted.

"The average age of those experiencing hospitalization is dropping".

There are now 319 people in hospital - a decrease of one person since Saturday - but 60 of those people are in intensive care, an increase of four since Saturday.

Over half of men over the age of 50 and 70 per cent of men over 65 have high blood pressure.

"That should not be a death sentence".

"We have to bend the curve back down to support our healthcare system to protect vulnerable Albertans, to keep schools open, and to prevent further damage to people's livelihoods and the economy at a time of great adversity".

"There are 173 general adult ICU beds for this objective", she said.

There are now seven COVID-19 outbreaks in the Central zone, including five in the Red Deer area: Avenue Living Communities office in Red Deer, Drumheller Institution, Olymel in Red Deer, a private gathering in Ponoka, and at Pure Fitness in Red Deer.
