Matthew Brann, federal judge, dismisses Trump campaign's Pennsylvania case

Federal court rejects challenge on Pennsylvania

Mr Trump has launched a series of lawsuits in a desperate attempt to overturn the result.

President-elect Joe Biden's first Cabinet picks are coming Tuesday and planning is underway for a pandemic-modified inauguration in January as his team moves forward despite roadblocks from the Trump administration.

He declined to say which posts the president-elect would announce, though Mr Biden said last week he has already decided on a person for the key position of Treasury secretary.

The General Services Administration, run by a Trump appointee, has not recognised Mr Biden's victory, preventing the transition process.

One of those cases aims to nullify the Nevada election or have Trump declared the victor despite tallies showing that of the more than 1.4 million votes cast, Biden won more than 33,000 votes. And, since then, Donald Trump's been rejecting democracy.

"We're beginning to look like a banana republic", Maryland's Republican Governor Larry Hogan told CNN's "State of the Union" program, criticizing the refusal of many in his own party to acknowledge Trump's defeat. He tweeted later that the president should "stop golfing and concede".

Brann, nominated by former President Barack Obama, is a Republican and, according to his biography, a member of the Federalist Society, a group of conservative and libertarian lawyers, law students and scholars.

It was unclear all week whether Trump would even be present for the year's G20, which is being mostly virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr. Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, claimed the actions were a violation of equal protection.

India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) was among the last few regulators to impose the ban. The FAA said the move was made in co-operation with air safety regulators worldwide.

"Today's ruling is a victory for the rule of law, and for the voters of Pennsylvania, whom the Trump campaign sought to disenfranchise on the flimsiest legal theory imaginable", wrote election law scholar Rick Hasen on Twitter.

The judge also denied the campaign a motion to file an amended complaint, concluding that it had already done so once before, and that further motions "would unduly delay" the November 23 deadline for Pennsylvania counties to certify their election results.

The lawsuit claimed that some counties in Pennsylvania allowed mail-in voters to fix problems with the ballots by casting provisional ballots, which the campaign said were cast illegally for Democrat Joe Biden.

The Hill reports: "The Trump campaign's push for the recount in Georgia comes one day after Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) certified the results of the election in that state, showing Biden leading Trump by more than 12,000 votes".

The Electoral College is due to formally vote on December 14, with certifications to take place beforehand.

After federal judge smacked down the Trump campaign's flimsy effort to block the certification of votes in Pennsylvania on Saturday, Toomey signaled in a statement that Trump's legal team has hit a dead end in its hope of overturning the electoral result in the state.

But Mr Trump's refusal to concede has raised concerns that he could cause long-term damage to Americans' trust in the voting system that underlies United States democracy.

"This court was unable to find any case in which a plaintiff has sought such a drastic remedy in the constest of an election, in terms of the sheer volume of votes asked to be invalidated", Judge Brann wrote.

The campaign has requested a recount in two counties in Wisconsin that is now underway.
