G20 summit | Narrow differences, resolve disputes through dialogue: Xi Jinping

G20 leaders pledge to fund fair distribution of COVID-19 vaccines: draft statement

Keen to be better prepared for any potential next pandemic that might come, G20 leaders also said they would commit "to advancing global pandemic preparedness, prevention, detection, and response" and "to the continued sharing of timely, transparent, and standardized data and information".

German Chancellor Angela Merkel told reporters Sunday in Berlin after the virtual summit that Germany had given financial support to the Covax initiative but more money is needed.

The companies have benefited greatly from the shift to tele-working forced upon the world economy by the pandemic, and European countries have always been pushing to tax them where they make their profits, rather than where they establish their subsidiaries for tax optimisation purposes.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is joining fellow leaders at the G20 in a promise to provide more assistance to poor countries battered by COVID-19, including the provision of vaccines for all.

The US and China are the top two polluters of the world.

Saudi Arabia's King Salman said in his closing remarks that the group had "adopted important policies that will achieve recovery all the way to an economy that is resilient, sustainable, inclusive, and balanced".

In a statement, the White House said Trump highlighted to his fellow world leaders at the G-20 summit that the US had "marshaled every resource at its disposal to respond to the crisis".

"We also support the G20 in carrying out institutionalised cooperation and building global cooperation networks to facilitate the flow of personnel and goods", Mr. Xi said. The United States has declined to join under Trump, saying COVAX was "influenced by the corrupt World Health Organization and China".

Liverpool boss Klopp: Pickford decision hard to deal with
All players are incredibly disciplined; there were some cases of course, but they really know about the situation. We are in close contact with him all of the time ", said Klopp. "We have the situation we have".

"Xi's words show that China's position of continuously and firmly promoting globalization and joining the division of labor in the global industrial and supply chains, as well as its position of working with other countries to develop and share the Chinese market through enhancing its market openness", said Ren Libo, head of the Beijing-based Chinese think tank Grandview Institution.

However, G20 leaders face mounting pressure to help stave off possible credit defaults across developing nations.

To address this, the G20 will endorse a plan to extend a freeze in debt service payments by the poorest countries to mid-2021 and endorse a common approach for dealing with debt problems beyond that, the draft communique said.

The ministers had extended a debt suspension initiative for developing countries until June next year but UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has pushed for a commitment to push it until the end of 2021. President-elect Joe Biden has not said whether he will join it.

International Monetary Fund managing director Kristalina Georgieva has warned that the global economy faces a hard road back from the Covid-19 recession, even as vaccines are now in sight.

According to the president, strengthening the global public health system as well as preventing and controlling the COVID-19 pandemic and other infectious diseases are "the most pressing task of the moment".

Some Western officials have indicated human rights will not be raised at the summit, saying they prefer to use bilateral forums to discuss the issue with Riyadh.
