BC health officials report 516 new COVID-19 cases

B.C.’s COVID-19 response and latest updates for Nov. 20

There have been 10 new COVID-19 related deaths, for a total of 320 deaths in British Columbia.

An earlier order limiting social gatherings in the Fraser Health and Vancouver Coastal Health regions was expanded to the entire province until at least December 7.

That figure includes 227 people who are hospitalized, which is also a record. The number of people under active public health monitoring has surpassed 10,000 again (10,002) after dropping slightly this week.

One more person died, bringing B.C.'s death toll from COVID-19 to 321. We offer our condolences to everyone who has lost their loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Island Health also declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Discovery Harbour long-term care home in Campbell River.

The new numbers come one day after Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced wide-ranging new rules for controlling the spread of the disease.

Boeing Max Set for Key European Approval Step Next Week
India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) was among the last few regulators to impose the ban. The FAA said the move was made in co-operation with air safety regulators worldwide.

"We are all feeling the strain of COVID-19", Henry and Dix said in their statement.

The order is part of a number of sweeping measures announced Thursday, Nov. 19 - which extend restrictions on travel, social and group gatherings, as well as indoor group fitness - from the Lower Mainland to all of B.C. until December 7.

"In our workplaces, we want to be using all of the tools and resources to keep employees and customers safe and, importantly, keep as many businesses as possible open", explained Henry.

All worship services and community and social events will be suspended, along with high-intensity group fitness, such as interval training, hot yoga and spin classes.

We also strongly recommend that everyone focus on essential travel only and put aside recreational or social travel for now.
