Apple to pay $113m to settle iPhone 'batterygate'

Some users had problems swiping up from the bottom of the lock screen on the iPhone 12 mini while others faced issues with pressing the flashlight and the camera buttons

Over $24 million dollars of which will go to the attorney's offices representing California and 5 districts within the state.

Louisiana is in line to receive nearly $3.3 million as part of a $113 million settlement of allegations brought by 34 states that the company deliberately slowed performance of older iPhones when their batteries degrade, Attorney General Jeff Landry said Wednesday.

The update claims to offer an optimized battery charging, especially for the Apple AirPods to slow the rate of battery ageing by reducing the time the AirPods spend fully charged. Now, the company has integrated Shazam's functionalities into its iPhone, allowing users to recognise songs that are playing with a single tap.

According to a report by the South Korean media "Asian Economy", Apple officials recently stated that it is aware of "a few reported cases which are now under investigation". By doing this, they allege that Apple was profiting off of people who were tricked into thinking they needed a new iPhone, when really they just needed a much cheaper battery replacement.

Users have taken their problems on Reddit and Apple Community thread where many users can be seen reporting the lighting trouble.

An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment on the settlement.

ATP Finals: Djokovic wary of threat posed by Thiem
Citing the threat he could pose, Nadal said , "Yeah, I know it gonna be a tough one". If not, is nearly impossible and I hope to be ready to make that happen".

Although Apple had since accepted to replace batteries at a highly discounted price, that didn't stop the lawsuits from going ahead.

The company previously agreed to pay a $500 million settlement to consumers to resolve a class action lawsuit over the same issue. This settlement called for the company to pay users at least $25 per iPhone.

On Wednesday, Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced the proposed settlement, which arose from a multi-state investigation.

"Apple withheld information about their batteries that slowed down iPhone performance, all while passing it off as an update", said Becerra.

"This settlement should remind companies that they have a legal responsibility to provide clear and truthful information to their customers and to treat them fairly", Washington, D.C., Attorney General Karl Racine said. "Companies can not be disingenuous and hide things".
