Ivanka Trump accuses prosecutors investigating her earnings for potential fraud of "harassment"

New York authorities investigating millions in tax write-offs from the Trump Organization

Citing unnamed sources, The Times reported that one criminal and one civil investigation in NY looking at allegations of fraud by President Donald Trump and his enterprises now include millions of dollars in tax write-offs on consulting fees that were paid to Ivanka.

The subpoenas were issued after a Times investigation into decades of Trump's tax records revealed that the president had paid no federal income taxes for years and his company deducted $26 million in questionable consulting fees.

"This is harassment pure and simple", she said on Twitter late Thursday.

Trump tweeted on Thursday: "This "inquiry" by NYC democrats is 100% motivated by politics, publicity and rage ..."

According to the report, the Internal Revenue Service could reject such write-offs if they were claimed as a way to avoid taxes.

"These politicians are simply ruthless", Ivanka continued.

In a second tweet, she said the investigations were part of a "continued political vendetta" and linked to a New York Times report about New York Attorney General Letitia James' personal feelings toward President Trump and her efforts to sue the Trump Foundation. That's the exact amount the Trump Organization claimed as tax write-offs on consulting fees for hotel projects in Hawaii and Vancouver, the Times reported. Some of those fees appear to have been paid to Ivanka, even though she was a senior executive at the company.

46,232 new cases push India's COVID-19 tally to 90.50 lakh
A total of 5,35,167 people have been fined for violating social distancing norms, not wearing masks or spitting in public places. The total active cases now stand at 4,43,794 after an increase of 491 in the last 24 hours.

In 2017 Ivanka became a presidential adviser and that year she filed a disclosure where she reported receiving payments from a consulting company she co-owned, TTT Consulting LLC, that totaled to $747,622.

It isn't known whether any investigation has gathered sufficient evidence to charge Trump with any crimes.

The probes are two of several legal entanglements likely to intensify when Trump leaves office and loses immunity from prosecution.

The Trump organization has received subpoenas to hand over records on the consulting fees from the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, which will handle the criminal investigation and the NY attorney general's office who will handle the civil inquiry process.

Alan Garten, an attorney for the Trump Organization, similarly told The Times that "this is just the latest fishing expedition in an ongoing attempt to harass the company".

"Everything was done in strict compliance with applicable law and under the advice of counsel and tax experts", he added.

Her inquiry began a year ago in March, after Michael Cohen, the president's former lawyer, told Congress that Trump had inflated his assets in financial statements to secure bank loans and understated them elsewhere to reduce his tax bill. One of them is a 2010 financial restructuring of the Trump Hotel & Tower in Chicago, when the Fortress Credit Corp. forgave debt worth more than $100 million. This was reported on Friday, November 20, by the American edition of the New York Times, citing sources familiar with the situation.
