Guardiola ends speculation with two-year deal, Football News & Top Stories

Barcelona's Lionel Messi

Guardiola's new deal, worth an estimated £20million-a-year, will eventually take his stay at City to seven years, putting him second on the list of the club's longest-serving post-war managers.

Guardiola - whose previous longest stay in a managerial position was four years in charge of Barcelona - has now expressed his delight at penning a new deal to remain in Manchester and insists the club provides him with "everything" needed to bring further success in the coming seasons.

"Ever since I arrived at Manchester City I have been made to feel so welcome in the club and in the city itself, from the players, the staff, the supporters, the people of Manchester and the chairman and owner", Guardiola said.

Guardiola and Klopp have become two of the best foreign managers to have worked in England, taking their respective clubs up a significant gear and playing superb football along the way.

"He convinced me we still have to move forward, to continue what we have done in these incredible last four years together and try to do it knowing how tough it will be in the Premier League and Europe, and [with] the desire to, if it's possible, make a step forward in this club or maintain the level we achieved in the last seasons".

"Lionel Messi is a player from Barcelona", Guardiola told a news conference on Friday.

City will turn their attention to landing Messi and teaming him up with his former Barcelona boss Guardiola as their dream team to land the club's first Champions League crown.

City have been Liverpool's biggest on-pitch rivals during the Jurgen Klopp era, with the two clubs locking horns in Premier League title races. I said it a thousand times. "That impact has been central to our success during his tenure and it is why I am delighted that he shares our view that there is so much more to be achieved both on and off the field", City chairman Khaldoon Mubarak said.

"But his contract finishes this year and I don't know what will happen in his mind".

"I would like to stay with the club, so it's easy. But when you want to stay, it's not so hard".

Pep Guardiola is staying at Manchester City.
