Canadian Opposition Leader Says He Won't Vote For Election

Trudeaus' speaking fees, expenses disclosed as potential confidence vote still looms

Canada's House of Commons on Wednesday struck down a Conservative Party motion to create an anti-corruption committee to look into Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's relationship with the WE Charity thereby averting a possible call for a new election.

The Liberal government had declared the motion to be a matter of confidence.

Trudeau's minority government was able to garner the support of New Democratic Party (NDP), along with a handful of Green and independent MPs.

Trudeau would have you believe that he and his government have been open and transparent - one of their favourite phrases - but they have been anything but that. "New Democrats will not give Prime Minister Trudeau the election he's looking for".

Erin O'Toole addressed media today, criticizing the Liberals' "entitlement and arrogance" for almost triggering an election "rather than just answering a few questions".

In a news conference before the vote, Conservative Party leader Erin O'Toole said if the motion doesn't pass, he would continue to work with other parties to hold the government to account.

"Imagine risking the health of Cdns to avoid taking responsibility".

"Now is not the time for us to weaken this cross-partisan co-operation, when people still need our help to meet their most urgent needs", Paul said in a statement.

But Singh accused the government Wednesday of refusing to negotiate a reasonable alternative to the Conservative motion, which he agreed went overboard in pursuing what amounted to "some sort of witch hunt" against Trudeau's family.

Jared Leto's Joker returns for Zack Snyder's 'Justice League'
The movie was panned by the critics and Leto's portrayal of the clown prince of Gotham did not receive much praise either. Berg and Johns have been accused by " Justice League " star Ray Fisher of condoning abusive habits on set by Whedon.

Still, O'Toole said the goal of the motion is not to force an election but to get accountability.

While Trudeau is relying on the NDP to back his version of the committee, leader Jagmeet Singh has described the situation as "a farce", "outrageous" and "absurd".

What concerns him, he said, is whether the Liberals are even interested in negotiating. He expects the Quebec-based Bloc Quebecois party to prop up the government if it comes to a vote.

"We know there must be something pretty damning in the documents for the Liberals to have gone to these lengths to prevent Canadians from learning the truth about the special treatment they give to insiders".

"Parliamentarians chose Canadians over politics".

Defeating the Conservative motion would mean that Trudeau wouldn't have to make the trip to Rideau Hall to speak with Gov. Gen. Julie Payette about the House of Commons losing confidence in his leadership, and the prospect of campaign tours hitting the road within days, would be off the table. Both the chair and a majority of seats on the committee would go to the opposition.

The NDP have already floated a proposal to pick up these various threads at the existing House ethics committee, with Singh saying that there do remain outstanding questions that need answering.

There are Liberal objections to the number of Conservative members on the committee, which would leave "more of control with the Conservatives and the other opposition parties", she said.

One area of focus is payments to Trudeau's wife and mother by a charity chosen to manage a student grant program.
