LSU Vs Florida Canceled This Week Due To COVID-19 Outbreak

Florida's heavily anticipated game against the defending national champion LSU on Saturday was postponed on Wednesday after the Gators program saw 19 positive cases of COVID-19, prompting the university to suspend all team activities. Both games have been re-scheduled for December 12, a previously scheduled open date for the entire conference.

The reason for halting team activities on Tuesday was due to an increase in positive COVID-19 tests from players.

LSU coach Ed Orgeron, who said prior to the season most of his team had the coronavirus in July, said Wednesday morning that he didn't expect this game to be played as scheduled.

Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin said he didn't think it would be "appropriate" to play the game this weekend.

This is the second SEC game this week that has been postponed, joining Missouri-Vanderbilt.

Combined with players held out due to contact tracing or injuries, less than 50 scholarship players would be available on Saturday. However, a couple of UF players said they had allergy-type symptoms before leaving for the game and didn't report it to UF officials. On Wednesday, Mullen said that two assistants have tested positive but that both were asymptomatic.

Coronavirus: Household visits banned as part of new restrictions
New restrictions on household visits came into effect across Carlow and Kilkenny as well as most of the country today. However, the Taoiseach is still in Brussels on Friday and it is unclear if any of these meetings will take place.

Because Florida has so many players who are positive and in quarantine, next week's game against Missouri could also potentially be in jeopardy. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recently lifted the state's COVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings.

The Gators played Texas A&M last week and lost a tight game in College Station.

"Head coach Dan Mullen has been in communication with football players and their parents, and I have had conversations with the Southeastern Conference office, last week's opponent Texas A&M, and this week's opponent LSU".

Asked on Monday if he had any regrets about the comments, Mullen said that he was focused on beating the Tigers and said the health precautions that players, coaches and staff were following were a "model of safety".

"He respects the importance of listening to the medical professionals", Stricklin said.

I dont want to speculate where we are right now, Mullen said.
