Almost 20 Years Old, Scott Peterson’s Murder Conviction To Be Reviewed

Re-examination of the Scott Peterson case

The California Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered a second look at Scott Peterson's conviction for killing his pregnant wife and unborn son, less than two months after it overturned his death penalty. He was sentenced to death.

The courtroom despatched the case again to the San Mateo County Superior Court docket to find out whether or not Peterson ought to get a brand new trial, the Los Angeles Times reported. The California Supreme Court ruled that a lower court must reexamine the case after it was discovered a juror did not disclose involvement in other legal proceedings.

But, Peterson's lawyers say Nice filed a lawsuit to obtain a restraining order against her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend after, in 2000, she was threatened by her while four and a half months pregnant. They were found a few miles from where Peterson had said he was fishing.

The juror said in her lawsuit that she feared for her unborn child.

Scott Peterson's murder convictions might just get overturned!

The case garnered widespread national attention at the time.

ICUs in the province saw two new COVID-19 patients on Saturday, for a total of 85 patients in intensive care units with COVID-19. The province said 100 new contact tracers have been hired, with up to 500 more recruits expected to be hired by mid-November.

Laci Peterson was eight months pregnant when she disappeared from her Modesto home on the day of Christmas Eve in 2002.

John Goold, a spokesman for the Stanislaus County district attorney's office, which prosecuted Peterson, downplayed the significance of Wednesday's order. Scott Peterson had been having an affair with Amber Frey, a massage therapist from Fresno.

Prosecutors argued that Peterson dumped their our bodies from his boat into San Francisco Bay, the place their our bodies washed ashore almost 4 months later.

The state's highest court already overturned Peterson's death sentence on appeal this year.

The California Supreme Court's actions, he said, "reflect the importance of jury selection in a case". If the evidence clearly shows misconduct, prosecutors will have to show the juror's actions were irrelevant to the case to prevail. The late Judge Alfred Delucchi, who presided over the trial, discharged prospective jurors who expressed opposition to capital punishment but said they would be willing to impose it. Delucchi's actions flouted U.S. Supreme Court precedent. "We identified some that unfortunately got through".

"I think this is going to be ironic ... if it turns out that the juror who was most prominent in the post-trial proceedings and who is most adamant about Peterson's guilt, is going to turn out to be ... the very juror whose actions caused the reversal of the conviction and a new trial", he told NPR.
