California Will Only Allow Sales Of New Zero Emission Vehicles By 2035

California Gov. Gavin Newsom speaks at a press conference on Wednesday Sept. 23 2020 at Cal Expo in Sacramento where he announced an executive order requiring the sale of all new passenger vehicles to be zero-emission by 2035. (Daniel Kim The Sacrament

Still, Newsom's executive order will spark ire from the right and from rural America and wherever people think climate change isn't anything they or their SUVs and pickup trucks need to worry about.

The two-week pause in accepting new claims will allow the state to install a new identification system from the identity verification company ID.me, which is already used by the California Department of Motor Vehicles to confirm identities.

Siegel's organization this week threatened to sue Newsom unless he halted all new permits for gas and oil wells in the state, saying the governor has failed to protect the health of vulnerable Californians from pollutants released by the state's petroleum industry.

California plans to ban the sale of new gasoline-powered passenger cars and trucks starting in 2035 as the top USA auto market shifts to electric vehicles to reduce climate-warming emissions, Governor Gavin Newsom said on Wednesday. You deserve to have a auto that doesn't give your kids asthma.

Tailpipe exhaust from cars, pickups, tractor-trailer rigs and other transportation are the single largest source of air pollution, and California has by far the most cars on the road than any other state.

Doctors have advised Taylor to sit out " indefinitely " as he heals, despite Lynn and the Chargers wanting him back much sooner. Taylor was taken to the hospital due to difficulties breathing after Lynn said he had a reaction to an injection.

Kassie Siegel, director of the Center for Biological Diversity's Climate Law Institute, called Newsom's order "a big step" but said it "provided rhetoric rather than real action on the other critical half of the climate problem - California's dirty oil production". The order also incorporates a mandate CARB issued earlier this year that truck manufacturers that sell medium- and heavy-duty trucks and vans in the state must begin transitioning to zero emissions vehicles starting in 2024 and complete the transition by 2045.

And in recent years, officials have floated the idea of banning gas-powered vehicle sales entirely.

On September 23, Gavin Newsom, the state's 40th governor, signed an executive order decreeing that all sales of new gasoline-powered passenger vehicles will be banned by 2035.

Mr Trump has sought to bar California from requiring the sale of electric vehicles, while Democratic presidential rival Joe Biden has pledged to spend billions to speed their adoption. 14 years later and we're still talking about just phasing out new gas-powered cars 15 years from now. And, no doubt, Trump will be tweeting about this if he hasn't already because he's been - in his anti-science, backwards-leaning, dummy Republican posturing been trying to push California and other states to roll back their emissions standards. And while California's new fuel emissions standards are welcome news, they won't be enough to curb the dangers of climate change.

The executive order was signed amid one of the most disastrous wildfire seasons in California's history, resulting in almost 8,000 fires scorching more than 3.6 million acres. And legislation lawmakers introduced in 2018 to require all cars registered in the state be zero-emission by 2040 didn't move forward. But with this new order, that figure could drop by up to 35 percent and mark an improvement of up to 80 percent in oxides of nitrogen emissions from cars statewide.
