Smoke and Poor Air Quality Sticking Around

Wildfire smoke brings more haze to the Cochrane area

The Air Quality Index (AQI) reading in San Francisco Monday morning was actually worse than it was on Sunday (190s vs. 160s) as smoke particles and polluted air continues to hover closer to ground level. Other university locations will make independent decisions about closures based on the air quality of each area.

New alerts from Environment Canada show that the regions of Banff National Park, Cardston, Fort Macleod, Magrath, Crowsnest Pass, Pincher Creek, Waterton Lakes National Park, Kananaskis, and Canmore have all fallen under air quality statements.

The suspension is in effect for Metro Vancouver, parts of Vancouver Island, the Okanagan Valley and Similkameen regions, as well as the Kootenay, Nicola, and Fraser regions. While there are some active and out of control fires in South Eastern B.C. Lowry says that they aren't producing the same volume of smoke as we're seeing being moved up from the Western United States.

Johns Hopkins moves up to No. 9 in 'U.S
The University also lost ground compared to last year's rankings of "Best Undergraduate Teaching " and "Best Value Schools". Pepperdine remains in the top 50 for "Best Value Schools" and "Most Innovative Schools", ranking 46 and 50, respectively.

Those with chronic underlying medical conditions or acute infections such as COVID-19 should postpone or reduce outdoor physical activity until the air quality advisories in place are dropped, especially if breathing feels uncomfortable.
