Regional Victoria moves to third step out of lockdown restrictions

Which restrictions in Victoria will ease from midnight

REGIONAL Victoria is moving forward. Indoors, venues can open with a cap of 10 seated customers per space - with up to two spaces per venue - and in line with the existing "four square metre" density rule.

The positive news came as the state recorded 42 cases in the past 24 hours, up slightly from the 35 reported on Monday, the lowest daily tally since 26 June. Check your state's restrictions on gathering limits.

Member for Northern Victoria Tania Maxwell also called on the Government to strengthen checkpoints out of Melbourne in particular public transport checkpoints into regional Victoria from metropolitan Melbourne.

Meanwhile, regional Victoria moved from Stage 3 restrictions to the second step of the roadmap as of midnight last night, meaning up to five people can gather together in outdoor and public places from a maximum of two households.

Playgrounds and outdoor pools can reopen and outdoor religious gatherings of up to five people, can occur.

People living alone or single parents can nominate one person to form a social bubble, however the nominated individual must be from regional Victoria.

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) said there was a total of 82 cases with an unknown source in metropolitan Melbourne, and one in regional Victoria.

Regional Victoria will take further steps out of COVID-19 restrictions as of this Thursday with a "ring of steel" to be placed around Melbourne to prevent residents from travelling into regional Victoria to help prevent any spread of the virus.

All Victorians must wear a face covering when they leave home, no matter where they live.

Community sport - contact and non-contact - can resume for those under the age of 18.

"Looks like the security at the Melbourne/Regional Victoria border is already being stepped up". The Victorian Chamber will continue to advocate for support for businesses impacted by COVID restrictions.

"It is something we should all be very pleased and proud of the job that regional Victorians have done".

The grants will be relief for around 33,000 eligible sole traders who have missed out on previous financial support and continue to be most affected by severe restrictions, however there will still be a large number of sole traders who do not meet the sector or commercial lease criteria who will be ineligible for the financial grants.

Hospitality businesses will also receive support with a dedicated $251 million Licenced Venue Fund and the waiver of liquor licence fees in 2021.
