UB drops to No. 88 in U.S. News rankings

The University also lost ground compared to last year's rankings of "Best Undergraduate Teaching" and "Best Value Schools".

This year, U.S. News introduced a category of undergraduate computer science programs, where NU ranked 25th - tied with Duke, the University of Chicago, Brown University, the University of Southern California and the University of California, Irvine.

University of Kansas in Lawrence was Kansas' highest-ranked university, nabbing the No. 124 spot and tying with eight other schools, including the University of Missouri. It also has the 63rd-best undergraduate engineering program in the country and is ranked 87th among the best public schools in the USA, the rankings show.

Earlier this summer, UM once again topped the list of top US public universities, according to the QS World University Rankings for 2020-21.

The undergraduate engineering ranking was based on peer assessment surveys, University spokesperson Jon Yates told The Daily, meaning they're based exclusively on the judgment of deans and senior faculty at peer institutions. In the Top Performers on Social Mobility list, which ranks schools by "enrollment and graduation of large proportions of disadvantaged students", UB moved up four spots and is ranked No. 62.

That would be something, again, if these were actually counterfeit AirPods instead of OnePlus Buds that sell for $79 . By all appearances, CBP forgot that Apple isn't the only company making sleek white wireless earbuds.

Pepperdine remains in the top 50 for "Best Value Schools" and "Most Innovative Schools", ranking 46 and 50, respectively. The University also placed 42nd on the "Best Value Colleges" listing, due largely to its commitment to need-blind admission and meeting the full-demonstrated need of all accepted students. Drury University in Springfield earned the No. 26 spot and Stephens College in Columbia ranked 46th.

The pandemic did not impact the data that schools submitted, according to U.S. News, which is from fall 2019 and earlier.

Ranking factors for national universities included graduation and retention rates, academic reputation, class size index, student-to-faculty ratio, faculty compensation, percent of full-time faculty, acceptance rate, standardized test scores of the incoming class, financial resources per student, average alumni giving rate, total student loans of graduating class, and "social mobility" - measured in part by graduation rates of students who are Pell Grant recipients.

To make valid comparisons, U.S. News groups schools by academic mission into 10 ranking cohorts including national universities, liberal arts colleges, regional universities, regional colleges and historically Black colleges and universities. The organization's methodology, according to its website, uses "only thoroughly vetted academic data from our surveys and reliable third-party sources". She has an MSt from the University of Cambridge and lives in Kansas City.
