Trump’s Mideast deals tout ‘peace’ where there was never war

Israeli delegation flies to Washington to sign normalisation deals

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas lauded the normalisation agreement, calling it "another important step toward peace in the region".

The accords struck between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last month, and between Israel and Bahrain on Friday, go against the will of the people, he said.

Bahrainis rallied throughout the kingdom last night condemning the government's declaration on normalizing its relations with the occupying state of Israel, setting Israeli flags on fire in defiance of a government ban on protests. The only problem is that Israel, which has now been getting recognition without making any concessions on the Palestinian front, might not want to sit down for talks with the PA, waiting for Iran and other regional factors to do the trick and push other countries into its arms.

A joint statement released by Netanyahu, US President Donald Trump and Bahrain's King Hamad bin Salman al-Khalifa announced "the establishment of full diplomatic relations between Israel and the Kingdom of Bahrain".

The extension of sovereignty was part of the Trump administration's Mideast peace plan, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had said he would move forward with it as early as July 2020, albeit only with American support.

The Foreign Ministers of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have arrived in Washington to attend a signing ceremony of peace treaties with Israel. The agreement cements an informal alliance against Iran and could pave the way for the UAE to acquire advanced USA weapons, while leaving the far more contentious Israeli-Palestinian conflict as intractable as ever.

And we think, ultimately, you'll have most countries join, and you're going to have the Palestinians in a very good position.

Chelsea's transfer spend demands title challenge from Lampard
Chelsea have been by far the most active team in the transfer market so far, spending almost £250m with more deals on the way. He said: "I didn't come into the job to fight for fourth place or bring academy players in; I came here to win".

The head of Bahrain's Jewish community Ebrahim Dahood Nonoo said in a statement that "this is a historic moment that we have never expected to see in our lifetime".

Prominent journalist Radhi Almosawi said that the deal was made in the interests of Israel and the USA - who both gain significant diplomatic plaudits - and not in the interests of Bahrain and the Gulf, who stand to be criticised for abandoning the Palestinian cause.

Meanwhile, the first business deals between Israel and the UAE are being signed, and direct flights between the two countries are set to start next month.

"If we are exhausted of the Palestinian issue, then what would be the feeling of the Palestinian people who are suffering ... day after day from occupation and oppression", he said, backing the long-standing goal of an independent state along 1967 lines.

Safadi called for stopping all Israeli measures that undermine the two-state solution, and for creating an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative and the worldwide resolutions.

Trump's reelection would bring even more pressure to bear on the Palestinians, potentially leading them to abandon the two-state solution altogether and demand equal rights in a single binational state.
