Officer running away while shooting man with knife

Lancaster, PA Engulfed in Riots After Police Shoot and Kill Knife-Wielding Black Man – Graphic Video

The shooting, which occurred shortly after 4pm in Lancaster, killed 27-year-old Ricardo Munoz, the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office said, whose office will lead an investigation into the incident.

At the station house, protesters "damaged a county vehicle parked in the front of the police station", police said in a Monday morning press release.

During the protests, bricks were thrown through the front of the police station and into the post office window, the police department said in a statement, adding that chemical agents were used to disperse the crowd. People also "threw water bottles, glass bottles, rocks, bricks, gallon jugs of liquids and parts of plastic road barricades at Officers".

Hundreds of people took to the streets of Lancaster in protests that were sometimes violent, turning the city of about 60,000 people into the latest flashpoint in a summer of civil unrest across the United States over racism and police use of force. "OC spray was also deployed at protestors that refused to move from the ramp and were physically challenging Officers that were moving to clear people from the ramp".

Photographs posted on social media show the aftermath of the protest, with shattered or cracked windows at the police station and bricks and bottles strewn along the roadway.

Crowds gathered to protest in a city in Pennsylvania on Sunday evening after a man was fatally shot by an officer who authorities say was responding to a domestic disturbance call.

The District Attorney's Office is now in the process of conducting a criminal investigation to see whether the force used by the officer was justified, Lancaster police chief Jarrad Berkihiser said in an interview with Lancaster Online.

Munoz, 27, then emerges while brandishing the knife, and the officer is heard and seen firing his weapon as the suspect falls to the ground. About 10 minutes later, Munoz left the home and chased the first officer to arrive at the scene.

Body cam footage released by the department shows the suspect chasing the responding officer with a large knife in his hand.

According to Lancaster Online, at least four people have been arrested in connection with the protests so far and the officer who shot Munoz has been placed on leave.
