US prosecutor looking into the origins of Russia probe resigns

Trump Russia Probe

Nora Dannehy was a top prosecutor on a team led by U.S. Attorney John Durham of CT, who was appointed a year ago to lead an investigation into how the FBI and other federal agencies set out to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and whether the Trump campaign had coordinated with the Kremlin.

A spokesman for the CT U.S. attorney's office confirmed her departure, but declined to comment further.

The short email was a brief farewell message and said nothing about political pressure, her work for Durham or what the Durham team has produced, the Courant reported, citing unnamed people who got the post. Dannehy rejoined Durham's office in March 2019, shortly after Barr asked Durham to launch the investigation, having previously led that office in an acting capacity. Colleagues of Dannehy told the Courant that Barr is pushing Durham to produce more results before the November election.

The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.

"The Durham investigation was political from the start", Schiff wrote on Twitter after Dannehy's resignation was reported. They reported that she had been considering resigning for weeks, not wanting to abandon Durham but uncomfortable with the political reality of the situation.

The inquiry has not yet brought the results that Trump supporters had been hoping for

In recent years Dannehy has worked for a major defense contractor.

In other developments related to the Russian Federation investigation, lawyers connected to the case of former Trump administration national security adviser Michael Flynn were submitting arguments Friday about how the prosecution should proceed in light of an appeals court ruling last week.

As an assistant U.S. Attorney in Connecticut, Dannehy, known for building complex corruption cases against high-profile politicians.

Durham, the U.S. attorney for the district of CT since 2017, was tasked in May 2019 to investigate the way the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the DOJ handled the so-called Russiagate probe of Trump's campaign and administration, from mid-2016 to the appointment of Robert Mueller as special counsel in May 2017. Among others, she convicted former Connecticut Gov. John G. Rowland and former state Treasurer Paul Silvester. Democrats fear a campaign-altering surprise.

COVID-19 vaccine trials resumed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca
The hiccup shows how risky the technology is, and why Sputnik V is not using it, the Russian vaccine funder's CEO said. The company is also conducting Phase 2/3 or Phase 3 trials in the U.S., Brazil, and South Africa.
