Slovenian woman cut off her hand for insurance payout

Julija Adlesic

A YOUNG girl who intentionally sliced her hand off with a round noticed so she might declare a £925,000 insurance coverage payout has been jailed.

The woman, Julija Adlesic, was detained early past year for allegedly cutting off her hand at the wrist with a circular saw to get almost 400,000 euros ($470,000) in insurance compensation. She was subsequently found guilty of attempted insurance fraud.

She stood to gain more than €1 milion (£900,000, $1.16 million) in insurance payouts if successful.

Julija Adlesic along with her boyfriend planned for the insurance fraud.

STA reported that the group did not bring the severed limb to the hospital with them initially but police recovered the limb and it was reattached in the hospital.

Per Sky News, following the horrific injury, the 22-year-old went to a nearby hospital with her boyfriend, Sebastien Abramov - with the pair choosing to leave the severed hand behind, instead of taking it with them.

Adlesic claimed innocence during the trial, saying she could never harm herself deliberately.

Simply days earlier than the incident in early 2019, Adlesic's accomplice looked for data on the web about how synthetic fingers work.

Julija Adlesic has been jailed for two years. They left the hand at the location of the incident when they went to the hospital.

Her boyfriend received three years in prison, while his father was given a one-year suspended sentence.

"We believe the sentences are fair and appropriate and will serve their goal".

The case was heard at Ljubljana District Court. This was used as evidence that the amputation was part of an insurance scam plot. Her left hand was cut above the wrist with a circular saw.
