Paulette likely to threat Bermuda as a hurricane

Tropical Storm Rene track

The National Hurricane Center is tracking seven systems, with the newest one added at the 8 a.m. update. The forecast track remains the same, and there is still no threat to Southwest Florida. Morning lows will be in the lower 70s. The hurricane center said it could move west and south for the next few days without much chance of development - 10% in the next two days and 20% in the next five.

Rene was a minimal tropical storm with top winds of 40 miles per hour. Meteorologists are calling for up to 24 tropical storms and up to 11 hurricanes in total this season.

First is Tropical Storm Paulette.

As of 5 am.

Tropical outlook Tuesday morning
The National Hurricane Center is tracking Tropical Storms Paulette and Rene as well as two other tropical waves

Tropical Storm Paulette had 60 miles per hour winds on Wednesday and could weaken some. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center. The earliest in the Atlantic Hurricane Season that a sixteenth storm has formed. We will continue to monitor. Paulette is then forecast to move a little faster and generally westward on Tuesday and Wednesday. These swells will likely cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions, according to the hurricane center.

"Interests in the Cabo Verde Islands should monitor the progress of this system as gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall is possible there on Monday and Tuesday", the NHC said.

The current expectation is Tropical Storm Rene will strengthen enough to be upgraded to hurricane status in a couple of days. If it becomes a tropical storm, its name would be Rene.
