Nvidia to purchase UK's Arm Holdings for $40bn

The Arm deal is expected to close by March 2022

ARM is semiconductor and software design company wholly owned by Japanese conglomerate SoftBank Group and its Vision Fund.

SoftBank has been under pressure to up its stumbling stock price as per reports. "Nvidia will retain the name and strong brand identity of Arm".

Nvidia is the leading maker of GPUs for devices.

It comes four years after billionaire Masayoshi Son, SoftBank's founder, bought Arm Holdings - its largest ever purchase - for $32bn, in 2016.

Nvidia declined to comment on the report. Joining forces with a world leader in technology innovation creates new and exciting opportunities for Arm.

Arm is designing microprocessors to run on most smartphones in the world. "We look forward to supporting the continued success of the combined business".

Thiem, Zverev reach final after contrasting victories
Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev are set to clash in the final of the US Open 2020 men's singles. Whilst Zverev is making his debut at this stage of a slam, the same can not be said for Thiem.

Aside from that, latest Nvidia deal to acquire the British chip designer, which actually licenses out its chipmaking technology to other vendors, came forth roughly a year after Nvidia Corp.

However, the firms involved would need to get through a huge amount of regulatory scrutiny before the massive deal could go through.

Owing to the complex ownership structure and the multiple countries involved, closing is expect to take one and a half years, and will require regulatory and antitrust approvals in the US, the United Kingdom where Arm is headquartered, China, and the European Union. Having succeeded in selling Nvidia's graphics chips to owners of data centers to speed up image recognition and language processing, Huang is looking to make sure his technology helps spread that to self-driving vehicles, smart meters and other products.

SoftBank Group Corp executives are considering taking the Japanese technology group private as the company seeks a new strategy after disposing of several large assets, the Financial Times reported on Sunday (Sept 13).

Nvidia announced it will keep Arm's headquarters in the United Kingdom and will invest in a new facility there to push forward research in artificial intelligence, educate customers and provide a place for experimentation in robotics and automation.

Nvidia will be providing more information about the deal on Monday evening in a conference call.
