Michael Bloomberg Donates $100 Million to Defeat Trump in Florida

Donald Trump leans on his podium and makes a face somewhere between a smile and a sneer

Michael Bloomberg, a NY billionaire and short-lived contender to be the Democratic challenger presidential nominee, has announced plans to inject at least $100m to help Democratic candidate Joe Biden overcome president Donald Trump in the important battleground state of Florida.

US President Donald Trump is seeking to flip Democratic voting Nevada to expand his path to victory while unleashing a torrent of unsubstantiated claims that his opponents were rigging the election.

Trump's initial financial supremacy over former Vice President Biden has evaporated after the Republican's campaign spent freely and Democratic fundraising surged once the party's divisive primary ended. Bloomberg's adviser Kevin Stacey said the billionaire believes investing in Florida will allow the Biden campaign and other outside Democratic groups - who have generally shied away from advertising in Florida because it's too expensive, the Post notes - to spend in other states, especially Pennsylvania. If he loses Arizona, winning Wisconsin - the most likely Midwest state for Trump to retain - would not be enough even if he keeps Florida and North Carolina. So if I'm up millions of votes, he can rig the election.

The president lost Nevada's six electoral votes to Hillary Clinton in 2016 by 2 percentage points, but the campaign has invested heavily in the state to change the outcome this go-around. He has since adopted the state as his residence and visits regularly.

Bloomberg is also reportedly hoping to encourage early voting in the state, which begins September 24, so that a potential Biden win could be called soon after polls close since Florida reports early ballots shortly after voting ends.

Nationally, little public polling is available to measure the opinions of Latino voters this year and whether they differ from four years ago.

1,000 people voted twice in state primary — Georgia
It's a minimum of one year in prison, up to 10 years, up to a $100,000 fine. This represents 66% of the 1,758,873 votes anticipated at this time.

"The senator has identified several specific changes he'd like to see", the Post reported, "saying Biden should talk more about healthcare and about his economic plans, and should campaign more with figures popular among young liberals, such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.)".

In the first moments of his 2016 campaign, he declared that many Mexican immigrants were "rapists".

Biden has hammered Trump for failing to lay out a national strategy to combat the pandemic, which has killed more than 193,000 people in the United States.

"I thought Mini Mike was through with Democrat politics after spending nearly 2 Billion Dollars, and then giving the worst and most inept Debate Performance in the history of Presidential Politics", Trump said in a tweet.

Democrats had anxious that Bloomberg's promised help for the party might not come through after he abandoned his own presidential primary campaign.

When asked if the focus of his effort will be Latino voters, one Bloomberg adviser said.

Thousands of supporters of US President Donald Trump have been filmed flocking to a campaign rally while ignoring social distancing rules.
