Kool & The Gang founder Ronald Bell dies


Khalis Bayyan - known best as Kool & the Gang co-founder Ronald Bell - has died.

Bell's publicist did not disclose his cause of death.

Ronald "Khalis" Bell of Kool & the Gang has died at the age of 68.

Ronald Bell a self taught musician wrote and composed some of Kool & the Gang's biggest songs including "Celebration", "Cherish", "Jungle Boogie" and "Summer Madness".

The BBC highlights how the Bell brothers used to collect old paint cans in order to construct makeshift drums.

Kool & the Gang enjoys a following that spans generations due in part to the group's widely sampled catalog. This sad news happened on September 9, 2020.

Bell surviving family members are his wife Tia Sinclair Bell, his 10 children - Kahdijah, Nadirah, Rasheed, Liza, Maryam, Aminah, Jennah, Khalis, James, and Asia - grandchildren, siblings, and his band members. "Our music is not just funk, it has pop, rock, country and a lot of other things", he said.


The musician was reportedly working on new material including a solo project, Kool Baby Brotha Band. He was also tapping away at Kool TV - a series of shorts chronicling the legacy of the Kool & The Gang career. Services will be private.

"It's the loss of a Jersey City icon", said Jerome Choice, a lifelong Jersey City resident who grew up in the same neighborhood as Bell. Throughout the 1970s and the 1980s, the group earned the love of music fans everywhere. "He was taken too early".
