"Serologic testing detects antibodies in the blood that indicate if a person has already been infected", said the World Health Organization chief.

Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, although older people are at a higher risk of severe disease, younger people are at risk too.

"Young people are not invincible, young people can be infected, young people can die and young people can transmit the virus to others", he added.

During a press conference in Geneva on Tuesday, WHO spokeswoman Dr. Margaret Harris encouraged people to stop thinking about COVID-19 as a seasonal virus, Reuters reported.

The director general said evidence suggests that the recent jump in cases in some countries were being driven by younger people.

Harris also expressed her concerns regarding COVID-19 cases aligning with "flu season" during winter in the southern hemisphere.
