Obituary | Amar Singh, man for all parties

Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh in 2018

President Ram Nath Kovind condoled the death of Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh on Saturday, saying he was a man of many parts and an able parliamentarian. PM Narendra Modi tweeted: "Amar Singh Ji was an energetic public figure". He was soon made a general secretary of the fledgling Samajwadi Party, and also rewarded with a Rajya Sabha berth in 1996.

The Left parties had withdrawn support to the Manmohan Singh-led government over the Indo-US nuclear deal and it was with the support of the SP that it pulled through.

He was not only said to be instrumental in bringing Mr. Yadav out of his cul de sac of Uttar Pradesh and the trajectory of a provincial politician to being a real player in Delhi, but also injected Bollywood glamour into the proceedings with his friendship with superstar Amitabh Bachchan.

"BJP's Shahnawaz Hussain also paid tributes to Amar Singh by tweeting, "No matter which party he belonged to, he had good relations with everybody". God bless them all". With opposition to him growing within the party, Singh was first expelled in 2010.

New Lamborghini Essenza With 830 HP Has Been Declared Illegal For Highways
Purchase of a auto will also include a storage service at a new hangar built at Lamborghini's Sant'Agata Bolognese headquarters. The engine is a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 with 819bhp - 11bhp more than the firm's recently introduced Sian supercar.

However, with the emergence of Akhilesh Yadav as the main face of the SP and his aging father Mulayam's control declining, Singh's influence started waning.

Mr Singh had later mended his differences with Yadav.

At one point of time, Amar Singh was considered to be one of the most powerful politicians in India due to his links with the Bachchan family and Anil Ambani, the younger brother of India's richest businessman, Mukesh Ambani.

In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Mr Singh contested on Ajit Singh's Rashtriya Lok Dal ticket from Fatehpur Sikri and lost.
