Hurricane Isaias could have Staten Island impact

The Palm Beach Zoo is closed Thursday and Friday so crews can prepare the animals for any impacts from Tropical Storm Isaias

Hurricane warnings continued along Florida's east coast on Saturday morning, and the hurricane center urged those in Isaias' path to finish their preparations as soon as possible.

As of Friday morning the storm was predicted to most impact Florida's central, eastern region before moving north.

The humidity will also be on the rise Tuesday and Wednesday with Isaias, but once that storm pushes out, then we're tracking drier conditions and lower humidity to end the work week.

There's some good news.

Florida has been a coronavirus hot spot in the United States in recent weeks, and the added menace of a hurricane ratcheted up the anxiety there as well. Most hotel clerks said they had plenty of capacity and weren't receiving any Isaiah-related bookings yet.

US President Donald Trump visited Florida as the Category 1 hurricane Isaias is approaching the state's southeast coast.

Hurricane conditions are expected along portions of the Florida east coast late Saturday and Saturday night, and a Hurricane Warning is in effect.

Wind gusts in excess of 74 miles per hour will be possible from Merritt Island to south of West Palm Beach. The hurricane center said little change in strength is expected through Sunday as Isaias tracks near Florida. The storm is expected to peak around the same time, with the Bahamas and coastal communities in Florida warned winds could reach upward of 100 miles per hour. Some shelters will be open as an emergency precaution, but capacity in the shelters will be limited due to COVID-19 precautions.

It's official. Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine is now Tropical Storm Isaias, trekking through the eastern Caribbean Sea as the ninth named storm of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season. A hurricane watch was in effect south of Boca Raton to Hallendale Beach.

But Judge Loretta Preska says the public interest in the documents "far outweighed" the possible "embarrassment". She sued Maxwell for calling her account "obvious lies".

Local officials will make determinations about which areas should be evacuated based on an area's risk for storm surge and flooding. Both have a chance of developing into a tropical storm during the next five days.

Sunday features more clouds than today, with higher humidity than Saturday, too.

Natalie Betancur, stocking up at a grocery in Palm Beach Gardens to ride out the storm, said that the storm itself doesn't cause her a great amount of concern.

The National Hurricane Center warned of a possible risky storm surge along the Florida east coast from Jupiter Inlet to Ponte Vedra Beach, where water could rise as much as four feet above ground level.

The northwestern Bahamas could also get 3-5 feet of storm surge today and tonight.

Eastern Shore residents could expect to see between 2 and 4 inches of rain and winds between 25 and 40 miles per hour.

The impacts on our weather here in Southwest Florida look to be isolated, and focused in our inland areas.

That rain will spread northward, with northern Florida and southeast Georgia potentially getting 1-2 inches.

"And even if the eye of the storm stays off the coast, there, of course, are going to be impacts when you're talking about hurricanes or tropical storms, storm force winds, so folks need to be prepared for that", he said.
