Ads We Like: Nike weaves together sporting footage and social justice

Nike seems to have outdone itself with its latest advertisement, even for a brand known for its exceptional commercials.

Amid the uncertainty of Covid-19 pandemic, with no clue when normalcy will return, Nike has dropped an ad that has left many inspired with the thought that "Nothing can stop what we can do together". And that is our strength because when we're doubted, we'll play as one.

Created by agency Wieden + Kennedy, the athletes featured include Rapinoe, LeBron James, Naomi Osaka, Eliud Kipchoge, Caster Semenya, Cristiano Ronaldo, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Serena Williams, Colin Kaepernick, and Kylian Mbappé.

In the third spot of the campaign, soccer pro Megan Rapinoe delivers a rousing speech alongside a series of 36 split-screen scenes that splice together dynamic moves of pairs of athletes, as if they are performing as one. "Because as athletes, we are never alone", says the company message on YouTube, taking care to add that each person with a body the brand considers an athlete, making the video's message supremely inclusive.

Since the coronavirus has postponed all sporting events, Nike wanted to point out that, despite the situation, the sport still has the power to unite us. Keeps us pushing ahead. "You can't stop sport".
