COVID-19 app, backed by federal government, now available

The government's new app will alert users if they have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19

The COVID Alert app is available on the Apple Store and Google Play for free.

The plan will see Ontario be the test bed, before it's rolled out across the country.

The app then checks a list of codes from people several times a day from people who tell the app they've tested positive.

While the initial rollout is just underway in Ontario, Canadians across the country are able, and are being encouraged to download the app in anticipation of more provincial and territorial health authorities signing on to use the new software.

The COVID Alert app is now available to download onto smartphones.

Burke continues that there's been feedback from developers that they'd like more detail about how ENS works under the covers, and so they've published public-facing guides that direct health authorities about test verification server creation, code revealing its underlying workings, and information about what data is actually collected (in a de-identified manner) to allow for much more transparent debugging and verification of proper app functioning.

To help public health authorities build apps more efficiently, we've added reliability improvements for apps and developer debug tools.

India refutes China claims that disengagement along LAC now completed
He further said that both sides should properly handle differences to bring bilateral relations back to normal track. He said China was committed to peaceful development and did not present a "strategic threat" to India.

Are there privacy concerns with Canada's new COVID-19 contact tracing app?

The COVID Alert app uses Bluetooth technology to detect when users are near each other.

"As Ontario safely and gradually re-opens, we continue to take a digital-first approach to delivering simpler, faster, better services to support Ontarians, including the COVID Alert app, which will leverage technology to protect the health and safety of the people of Ontario", said Peter Bethlenfalvy, President of the Treasury Board.

The app was supposed to launch in early July but was delayed as more testing was conducted, and some provinces have already launched their own digital tracing methods including Alberta, meaning Canada could end up with a patchwork of applications being used across the country and, as a result, limited efficacy when it comes to interprovincial spread.

Trudeau said the federal government is working with the Atlantic provinces to integrate their system with the app next.

Officials say the more people who download the app, the more effective it will be and stressed that it is a notification app, not a contact-tracing app.
