Two Friends in US Share Powerball Jackpot Win, Keeping 1992 Promise

Almost 30 years later, one of them did - and made good on his promise, made with a handshake.

Almost three decades ago, Tom Cook and Joseph Feeney promised each other that if anyone among them won the Powerball jackpot, they would split the winning money.

Cook gave his two-weeks notice to retire after winning and said now, they can "pursue what we feel comfortable with".

Tom bought the winning $2 Powerball ticket at a shop in Menomonie for the draw on 10 June.

After learning of the win, Tom called Joe to tell him the news and Joe, an avid fisherman, couldn't quite believe it. "A handshake's a handshake, man".

The Wisconson Lottery congratulated the pair, saying that: "The power of friendship and a handshake has paid off".
