Republicans want more direct stimulus payments, McConnell says

US President Donald Trump seen wearing a mask for the first time in public during a visit to a military hospital near Washington continues to oppose a national mask mandate

Details of the final proposal are still a work in progress, with White House and Republican negotiations coming and going to meetings throughout the day in an effort to merge around a unified blanket plan in the $ range.

Trump convened GOP leaders at the White House as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) prepared to roll out his $1-trillion package in a matter of days.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday said another round of direct payments would be included in a "Phase 4" stimulus package, as discussions began on Capitol Hill this week.

Senator Lindsey Graham, a close Trump ally, said the payroll tax cut would be "means tested", meaning upper income taxpayers wouldn't benefit. And Democrats want billions to outfit schools and shore up local governments.

Trump administration officials will also meet with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), the first bipartisan meeting to discuss the trillion dollar-plus package.

For contact tracing faced with polls showing voters trust joe biden more to handle the corona virus response president trump is reviving his corona virus briefings which he says had historic ratings but the president's those briefings in april after being widely criticized for attacking governors contradicting his own expert and seeming to suggest americans ingest disinfectant is way we can do something like that by injection insider for nearly cleaning. "It's one of the issues that we're proposing", said McCarthy.

He also said they are engaging in a partisan process by not working with Democrats to draft the bill, arguing it will cater to special interests instead of helping workers. "We need to carve out a 'new normal'". That could happen again, but there would likely be a lower income restriction on it.

The Democratic leader also blasted the move to open schools, saying just like states that reopened too quickly, there could be a spike in coronavirus cases. But that's gotten a cool reception from Senate Republicans.

Trump administration preparing to send federal agents to Chicago
In the words of Portland's imitable demonstrators: "Stay together, stay tight, we do this every night". He left with two broken bones in a confrontation with federal officers that went viral.

But the president's priorities are splitting his GOP allies in Congress giving momentum to Democrats as talks are underway. Experts say that alone would cost $600 billion.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said there was little enthusiasm for including a payroll tax cut sought by President Donald Trump. Employers pay an equivalent tax for each worker. Supporters say cutting it now for employees would put money in people's pockets and stimulate the economy.

The payroll tax Trump wanted also divided his party. But the administration criticised the legislation's money for more virus testing and insisted on a payroll tax cut that could complicate quick passage.

The update brings Republican legislators in line with the Trump administration and Democrats in calling for a second round of economic relief payments. Rick Scott, R-Fla., said he would oppose it if it includes money to bail out states. Senate Democrats were investigating why the Trump administration had not yet spent some of $25 billion previously allocated for testing in an earlier aid bill. Schumer warned of repeating mistakes of spring when Trump pushed for states to ease stay-home orders and reopen.

Schumer said Trump's effort to block testing funds in "unacceptable".

The political stakes were high for all sides before the November election, but even more so for the nation, which now registered more coronavirus infections and a higher death count than any other country.

Former Vice President Joe Biden, the Democrats' presumed presidential nominee, stated his own priorities. The new package should "deliver a lifeline to those who need it most: working families and small businesses", he said. And, wouldn't you know it, but the president has proven once again that when it comes to negotiating prowess supposedly honed over years in the private sector, Trump likes to enter the fray with all the subtlety of a drunken belly flop. He announced plans to relaunch his daily televised briefings.

The proposed virus aid package would be the fifth, following the US$2.2 trillion bill passed in March, the largest U.S. intervention of its kind.
