Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the nation at 4 pm

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reprimanded Indians for their increasing negligence and carelessness as the country sees Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections surge to new record highs every day.

More than Rs 90,000 crore will be spent in this expansion of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana.

It may be recalled, in addition to lockdown, PM Modi had announced an Rs 20-lac-crore financial package to boost the economy and aid migrant labourers affected by the coronavirus-induced nationwide lockdown, in his addresses to the nation.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended a free food grain scheme for over 800 million people until the end of November as the country battles a spike in COVID-19 cases. The eligible individuals were to receive 5kg of foodgrains and 1 kg Gram per month for a period of three months between April and June, 2020, which has now been extended for five more months. Prime Minister also directed that detailed planning for such large scale vaccination should be undertaken immediately.

The Prime Minister also delivered a word of caution when he noted that since Unlock 1 has been implemented, we are becoming more and more careless. The PM started the televised speech by saying, "We are entering Unlock 2 and the season of cough, fever and cold is also about to start".

Sudan, Egypt say Ethiopia will not fill Nile dam without reaching deal
Cairo fears the dam would severely cut its Nile water supply, which provides almost 97 percent of the country's freshwater needs. The Nile is a lifeline supplying both water and electricity to the 10 countries it snakes through.

"We need to have a special focus on containment zones. Those not following the rules should be stopped and made aware", he added.

Mr. Modi said, if one looks at the death rate due to corona, India is still in a very stable situation as compared to other countries.

This is for the first time that an Indian Prime Minister addressed the annual meeting of the AAPI, a representative body of more than 80,000 Indian-American doctors in the US.

PM Modi in his March 19 address had announced "Janta Curfew" on March 22. Now, the country is in the phase one of "unlock" and the month-long phase 2 begins on July 1.
