OnePlus Nord will be available for pre-order tomorrow

OnePlus 7 Pro

After a lot of hype and a large of leaks, OnePlus today confirmed that it would sell these devices under the OnePlus Nord banner. It looks as if there will be a gentle split in OnePlus' strategy between its high-end flagships and these more modest Nord devices.

OnePlus has been keeping us guessing concerning its upcoming affordable smartphone but the company put all guessing to rest by announcing that the name will be called OnePlus Nord. In the announcement, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said, "We are immensely proud of our flagship products and will continue to create more tech-leading flagships for our users".

OnePlus is remaining quiet on pricing too. Samsung's Galaxy A line will also be a rival for the OnePlus Nord in the market. The goal is to offer a premium OnePlus experience that will be accessible to more users. That mindset changed with the OnePlus 8 Pro as the company obtained an IP68 rating for the phone.

USA ends arms exports to China, restricts visas amid Hong Kong row
Senior judges now allocate rosters up through Hong Kong's independent judicial system. However, it remains unclear whether the law will be applied retroactively.

It's not the OnePlus 8 Lite or the OnePlus Z, but Nord, as had also been rumored previously. We also expect it to come for the Chinese market, after all, it's one of the biggest markets for 5G smartphones.

But perhaps the most tantalising thing about the Nord is that based on a tweet by OnePlus' other co-founder Carl Pei showing a photo of the original OnePlus One, it's possible that the Nord could cost as little as $US300 ($435) or $US350 ($508).

The Nord smartphone is expected to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 chipset alongside a quad-camera setup. The display will refresh at 90Hz which updates the screen 90 times per second. The handset will be available in India, the United Kingdom and Europe.
