Kenyans wont be permitted to enter European Union when borders reopen

Coronavirus EU set to reopen borders to 14 countries on 1 July

The proposed "safe countries" are Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisian and Uruguay.

But EU officials hope having the recommendations in place means the member states will reopen their borders in lockstep.

The list of safe countries was completed by European Union senior diplomats in Brussels after tortuous negotiations on how to reopen the 27-member bloc to commerce and tourism under a common set of standards after months of lockdown.

The list must be passed by a "qualified majority" of European Union countries, meaning 15 European Union countries representing 65 per cent of the population.

Restrictions on non-essential travel to the EU countries, which has been banned since mid-March, is expected to be gradually lifted from July 1 allowing visitors from countries with an epidemiological situation similar to that of the EU to enter the EU territory.

Note that earlier this green list contained 54 countries and Ukraine was included in it.

India bans dozens of Chinese apps after deadly border clash

Senior diplomats in Brussels have compiled a list of safe countries amid negotiations on reopening procedures.

The number of confirmed cases in the United States has surged over the past week, and President Donald Trump also suspended the entry of all people from Europe's ID check-free travel zone in a decree in March, making it highly unlikely that US citizens would qualify.

"A redrawn text of 10-20 countries was put to them, but many said they needed to consult first with their governments, diplomats said", the outlet reported.

Ahead of the planned reopening of its borders to global travellers on July 1, the European Union Commission has released a list of 54 countries that qualify for travels into Europe and Nigeria, Ghana is conspicuously absent.

"The European Union has an internal process to determine from which countries it would be safe to accept travellers", Mamer said.

It is known that Brazil, the United States of America and Russian Federation are on the red list, that is, their citizens are banned to enter Europe.
