California man and 27 relatives contract coronavirus, including father, who died

A California family lost a father to coronavirus and 28 family members got infected son says

"I don't want my father died for nothing". He warned the people by saying, "I want people to understand coronavirus is a real thing".

When father and son contracted the virus, they determined to quarantine collectively at residence in South-Central Los Angeles to stay away from spreading it to other household customers.

"We were also reduced at first because we went for it together", the son said.

"Hopefully his loss of life can support save folks", the younger Garay said.

"It went from running nose to headache to full-blown fever", Garay said. His father had a rare form of anemia unrelated to the virus, and he began to have trouble taking medication.

"He struggled to even drink his treatment". "I would power myself to try and try to eat spoonfuls of soup and tried to drive my dad to consume it much too".

His 60-yr-outdated father died a working day in advance of Father's Working day.

Richard Garay third from right with members of his family

All through their joint quarantine to move time, they talked about dying and what they desired their funerals to glance like, Garay reported. His father used his last bit of energy to sit up and check on him.

A few days in quarantine, the younger Garay called 911 after waking up inspired by the air.

"I'm like, 'Dad, I don't think I'm going to make it, '" Garay told the news outlet of what were ultimately his last words to his father. "I'm like, 'Dad, I don't think I'm going to make it.' That was the last thing I told my father, and the last thing my dad saw was his son suffocating".

Days later on, his father was taken to a clinic in Los Angeles County, exactly where he took a turn for the even worse and experienced to be set on a ventilator.

Garay didn't know how family members got coronavirus - there was no party and there was no big meeting. Meanwhile, the son was in a separate hospital struggling for his life and on oxygen most of the time - but not on a ventilator. Other members of their family also tested positive around the same time, with Garay suspecting they may have contracted it from a relative who came to visit in May or from a caretaker who looks after his mother.

The parents are recovering and planning the father's funeral, and he has settled on one GoFundMe account to help with the various expenses incurred by the disease and memorial pendant.
