Trump Tweets Video of Fan in The Villages Yelling 'White Power'

Trump called his supporters racists great people

"What he did see was tremendous enthusiasm from his many supporters", White House spokesman Judd Deere said in a brief statement. The man responds by twice saying, "White power", as a woman beside him chants, "Trump!".

Trump's 2020 rival, the presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden compared Trump's tweet Sunday to his 2017 comments blaming "both sides" for violence between white nationalists and counter-protesters at a rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Senator Tim Scott of SC, the only black Republican senator, called the video "offensive" and asked Trump to take it off his Twitter page.

"I think it's indefensible", he added.

The White House later explained the deletion of the tweet, which had been up for almost four hours, saying the president was unaware of the audio content.

He said: "President Trump is a big fan of The Villages".

"I've not seen that, and so I don't want to comment further on that", Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said after CNN's Jake Tapper played the video on State of the Union.

Трамп назвал своих сторонников-расистов великими людьми

Trump saw the video from another user and said to have retweeted it.

The president has a history of problematic retweets dating back years.

The Princeton decision is part of a sweeping reassessment of historical icons and monikers amid growing calls for racial justice following the killing of Black Americans, including George Floyd, whose death under the knee of a white police officer roused world protests.

He said in response: "One of those "great people" shouts 'WHITE POWER!'".

Critics have highlighted Trump's hostile response to protests against racial injustice and actions like Princeton's, even as MS on Sunday voted to remove the Confederate flag symbol from its state flag, Walmart stopped selling the Confederate flag, and NASCAR banned the Civil War-era symbol. One protester carried a "White Trash" sign.
